DOT-Uni organized a comprehensive two-day training session on CANVAS Learning Management System from September 24-25, 2024, at the CLIRDEC Conference Hall, CLSU. The first day began with an inspiring opening prayer, followed by a Statement of Purpose delivered by Dr. Elaida R. Fiegalan, the DOT-Uni Dean. Dr. Fiegalan emphasized the critical role of technology in modern education, noting the importance of mastering platforms like CANVAS for teaching. "CANVAS offers an intuitive and efficient way for educators to manage courses, engage students, and streamline learning processes," she said, highlighting the university's commitment to adopting forward-thinking teaching tools. She also mentioned that this is a deliberate action towards acquiring the Certificate of Program Compliance from the CHED to legitimize the courses offered by the CLSU-DOTUni. At the same time, it addresses several pressing, inevitably changing landscapes of education in consideration of the human and material capital of the university while remaining mindful of quality education. Following Dr. Fiegalan's statement of the purpose, Mr. Kevin Raymund Cabilla, a highly experienced educator and technology expert from CANVAS, was introduced as the session's resource speaker. He began by offering an overview of the CANVAS LMS Road Map, walking the participants through the CANVAS First Look and the Course Basics creation on the platform. He also showcased the platform's various features, which are designed to empower educators in course management and student engagement. During the hands-on training segment, Mr. Cabilla guided the Faculty Course Tutors through a detailed tutorial, showing them how to navigate the CANVAS interface, create modules, and utilize essential tools. He also provided practical tips on customizing course materials and leveraging multimedia features to foster an interactive learning environment. He demonstrated the step-by-step process of accessing CANVAS LMS and the available web browsers that provide seamless access to the platform. The session marked a significant milestone in DOT-Uni's ongoing efforts to integrate technology into its educational framework. The workshop will continue tomorrow, September 25, for another set of discussions.
